Curt Schilling, a former professional baseball player for the Boston Red Sox, was fired by ESPN for a post he made on social media. Schilling posted a photo which showed an overweight man wearing a wig and women’s clothing with parts of the T-shirt cut out to expose his breasts. The text stated “LET HIM IN! to the restroom with your daughter or else you’re a narrow-minded, judgmental, unloving, racist bigot who needs to die.”
To that, Schilling added: “A man is a man no matter what they call themselves. I don’t care what they are, who they sleep with, men’s room was designed for the penis, women’s not so much. Now you need laws telling us differently? Pathetic.”
First I would like to be clear: my editorializing is not about which bathroom transgender people should use. It is about the stifling of one’s speech. We live in America and free speech, whether we agree with what someone says or not, is every citizen’s right. We have become a society where only politically correct speech is acceptable; anyone who is not PC is punished and ostracized. If we continue down this path we will become a society which only promotes one view–the politically correct view.
People have a First Amendment right to say what they think. No matter how others may view their comments, the speaker should not be punished. It is healthy to debate openly and discuss issues we do not agree on. However, this is no longer the case in America. If you say something the PC police deem offensive, there are serious consequences. ecpinj.com
